Thank you for reading Jasini’s Thoughts and Ideas
Yesterday was Easter, one of the highest holy days in the church. Or one of the Easters. Eastern Orthodox Easter is apparently over a month away. Usually the dates are much closer to each other.
We spent the time in Church in the morning (though we left before the Easter Egg hunt. Our kids are too old to appreciate that anymore.). My husband made deviled eggs (yummy!) then went up and saw my parents and our daughter in the afternoon. And that was pretty much our whole day.
The weather kept threatening to rain, but didn’t do anything, barely even sprinkling. I think it’s starting to get ready to do stuff now. I’m hearing thunder, and our forecast has been for heavy storms this evening. I hope there’ll be a break when I have to go out later tonight.
But anyway, realizing that we are celebrating the Resurrection of the Christ not only around the globe but across the millennia is a humbling experience. The songs may be different, the services different, but we partake the same bread, the same cup, and have fellowship with one another, no matter what other differences we have.
There was someone on FB this past week who asked which was more important to Christians, Good Friday or Easter.
That is a difficult question to answer. They are really part and parcel with each other. One cannot have the Resurrection without the Crucifixion. The Romans crucified many men. Some of whom may have been innocent. But only one had the sky darkened, the curtain in the temple torn, dead people walking. Only one was resurrected. Only one returned to glory. Only one Crucifixion resulted in Easter.
