Thank you for reading Jasini’s Thoughts and Ideas
I should never have said that things were starting to look up. The universe heard me, and decided to have a laugh at our expense. Or really my husband’s expense.
A week ago Sunday my husband was in the basement workshop in the dark at 6 am. he reached for the light switch, and tripped over something on the floor. On the way down, he caught himself on multiple items on the pegboard, and ended up breaking his pinkie finger on his left hand. He is left-handed.
We talked about going to the emergency room that day, but it wasn’t hurting that much, so we put it off until Monday. Monday at the emergency room, they looked at the finger and said we needed to get over to orthopedics right away. Turns out, the orthopedic center he referred us to doesn’t take our insurance. So they recommended a different orthopedic center, and faxed over a referral. Faxed, like it was the 80s.
We spent the next two days calling both centers, the first insisting that they sent the fax, and the second insisting that they never received it. We got to know Bernice’s voice at the second center quite well. Hi, Bernice!
For some reason, we couldn’t bring the referral in, it had to be faxed to them. After all this frustration, we decided that the best way to get into the second system and be seen before the finger healed in its displaced position. So, once again we went in and spent hours in an emergency room, waiting. (This is a story in itself, as to why it took us two days to get into the emergency room). Fortunately, the waiting room was empty when we got there, so they could take us back to a room immediately. Then we waited there for a few hours before the bone doctor could get to us, give us a better splint, and say once again that he really needed surgery.
But it did work. The orthopedic center called us and set up a consult for the next available day (today, because of the holiday), and will be setting up surgery for Thursday. We should get a call tomorrow for the time.
As it was, I had multiple things planned to do last week and this week, but most of them have been swallowed up by my husband’s finger. He was able to get a lot more accomplished than I was.
Some things I had planned: Get the kitchen cleaned, and keep it that way. Work on cleaning the bedroom. Finish editing Tolly and Glorina. Work on the second part of Tolly and Glorina. Work on Princess Janomi, and anything else that pops in my head. I’ll get there someday.

I've been there, done that, got the award to prove it.
I'm sorry it took so long to get your husband seen.
In a perfect world, they wouldn't worry about insurance and
everyone could see the doctor they wanted to see.
