I was thinking about that. Obviously we all have it all the time... we need to introduce a new character. One of my favorite introduction is Gandalf and the Dwarves in the Hobbit.
What I mean by 'awkward' is that the info dump takes us out of the story. It would be nice if there was a story way to introduce her. Like in someone's thoughts, or over a phone call, etc. "Hey, Sue, I'm coming to see you this weekend." "What, no!" "Don't have time to see your sister?" "No, I mean, yes, but, it's such a long drive. My current job is two hours away from you." "Well, yes, but we haven't seen each other in six months..." etc
I got in that they are sisters, havent' seen each other, its a long way away, etc etc.
Ok, I had forgotten that I put the little note at the beginning. I only did that because I'm snippeting this so episodically that i don't expect people to remember that I mentioned her, and her odd name weeks ago. I was thinking that it was the phone call you found so awkward. (You still might.)
So, is your little introduction meant to be part of the story? It seems awkward.
What do you mean? What do you find awkward about it? Do you think it would be better if An just shows up unannounced?
